Psychological Research & Observation Facility
Hello, I’m Dr. Mark Wickmund and this is a message for the current inhabitants of station 5 of the DHARMA Initiative. Station 5, or The Pearl, as you were told in the orientation video, is a monitoring station where the activities of participants in DHARMA Initiative projects can be observed and recorded, not only for posterity, but for the ongoing refinement of the Initiative as a whole. As Karen DeGroot herself has written: “Careful observation is the only key to true and complete awareness.”
You have been, so far, observing and recording psychological evaluations of team members in other stations on the island. This job is about to change. The 8 hour shifts remain the same, however, your term of duty has been changed. In order to allow the observers to have the best understanding of the characters of the subjects, the term will last until the end of this experiment.
Arriving by way of submarine, under pretenses of parental figures being recruited by the Initiative, will be an eclectic group of children. They are the future of the Initiative.
Observe and record everything. Understanding these children will be the most important task to be certain that they are shaped into the people that will bring a bright future to the Initiative. Our future rests on your hands.
On behalf of the DeGroots, Alvar Hanso, and all of us here at the DHARMA Initiative: Thank you, namaste, and good luck.

Claire, Jack, Shannon, Sawyer, Kate, Locke, Boone, Eko, Ana, the general idea is that all of them are there, all those who have not yet had the chance to become the survivors of Flight 815, have been brought together by agents of the DHARMA Initiative. Transferred with their parents to live on an island of mysteries, they will live together, learn together, grow together, and all under the careful, watchful eye of “Big Brother.”
Not only will they have to deal with normal things such as bedtimes, curfews, groundings and rules from their parents, they also have to survive an island of Hostiles and a mysterious smoke monster. They not only have to have education that regular kids get--but they'll find that Dharma has special classes for them as well.
As time goes by...they'll go from kids...to teenagers...to adults.
What will you put them through as they grow?
