In 1638, Queen Anne d'Autriche gave birth to a son who would one day inherit the throne to all the kingdom of France and Navarre. But, known only to a select few, there was a twin brother born. The King, having seen many countries torn apart by feuding brothers, had his youngest son sent away to live in the countryside and kept his living secret...
» Twenty-three years later, King Louis XIV had taken rule of France which was suffering from hunger and poverty under the costs of war and their King's lavish lifestyle. Of the Musketeers who had faithfully served his father, Louis XIII, only one still remained on the womanizing, selfish King's side: D'Artagnan, the Captain of the King's Musketeers, while his three old friends and companions, Aramis, Athos and Porthos, retired into civil life long ago.
However, life would only spiral down for King Louis after the day his eye would fall upon the lovely Christine: the fiancé of soldier Raoul, the son of Athos. In order to pursue her freely, Louis had Raoul recruited and sent to war to eventually be killed. Athos, Aramis and Porthos plot the end of Louis' cruel reign.
» So begins the tale of the man in the iron mask, whose existence would answer all the country's prayers for a good king. The man in the iron mask is revealed as none other than King Louis' younger twin brother Phillipe, whom had been incarcerated for six years by his brother within the dreaded iron mask to hide his face.
"...Once all of us believed in serving something greater than ourselves.
Aramis had his faith, Porthos his lust for life, D'Artagnan his devotion...
and I had Raoul. But we all had a common dream. That one day we would finally be
able to serve a king who was worthy of the throne."

Secrets are revealed and formed, bonds broken as well as renewed... and a new King risen to rule over France and Navarre. With the help from D'Artagnan, unveiled as the biological father to Louis and Philippe, the group are able to switch the twins' lives. However, D'Artagnan would fall for the sake of the country he so dearly loved and that dream for a good king...
» Two years following, King Louis, who is in reality Philippe, has renewed peace in all of France and Navarre as well as with Spain by marrying the Spanish Princess Marie-Thérèse d'Espagne and taking on the trio Aramis, Athos and Porthos as his royal advisers.
However, high ranked citizens of Spain look down on the uniting with France and cut-off the new Queen's birth right to the Spanish crown... causing tension once more. Not only that, but old secrets are being dug out from the past... King Louis, or Philippe, finds himself caught still in a whirlwind of a new lifestyle and exposed to the real life of a King: jealousy, scorn, vanity, and lies; everyone wears their own mask...
“As we ascend the social ladder, viciousness wears a thicker mask.”.
