The West End.
Terraced playground of the rich, a fashionable city of life and Society, the seat of great England’s power. It is the wealthiest community in Europe. These glittering circles of silk and jewels are segregated by iron fences and chains. The West End has walled itself off from the darker side of London, the city it fears…hiding away from the mobile vulgus.
The East End.
Industrial heart of the city, the source of its throbbing life and the riches of the London elite. A bloated, fetid city of darkness and grime, where impoverished men, women, and children are packed into ghettoes like rats and scrabble to survive. Madame Geneva reigns supreme, turning men and women into mere brutes. The victors of the struggle form their own small kingdoms, criminal networks that terrorise the streets, robbing, raping, and murdering. The law keeps its nose out of their business…the great cogs of justice are greased with gold enough to make it worth their while.
London, 1754...
...the largest city in the world. It is a city at war with itself, where men and women may live their entire lives in fear, whether they live in the bright West End or the filthy East End. It is a city constantly changing, yet always remaining the same. It is a city with uncountable stories, one of which may be your own.
